Children
We love seeing children in our office! Generally speaking, 15-18 months is the perfect age for their first visit. These visits are used to get your child accustomed to sights, sounds, and smells of our dental office. Also, we want to ensure we provide you with the necessary feedback to ensure they have a healthy mouth.
You can expect for us to be gentle with your little one. As your child matures, we will increase the amount of things we do (i.e. x-rays, cleaning tartar off with a scaler, using a prohy brush to polish their teeth). We will place fluoride varnish on their teeth to help fight cavities.
If your child’s teeth are prone to decay or have deep pits and fissures, we will recommend sealants. Sealants are nothing more than a thin plastic coating that goes on the biting surface of the tooth. It fills in the pits and fissures making it nice and smooth.
As your child grows, we will continuously monitor the development of the teeth and how they function. You will find that at about 5-6 years old, children will start to lose their baby teeth. This will continue until about 12- 13 years old. As your child moves into the preteen years, we will be able to identify whether they will need braces. If they do need braces, we will refer them to an excellent orthodontist. Before braces are placed, we must ensure your child has good oral hygiene.
If your child sees Dr. Veath, they will get to hold a stuffed animal and hear him tell them a story or sing them a song as he gently cleans their teeth.
